Dunn County 4-H News: September 2026

Excitement is in the air as the school year begins, and just as the new school year starts for many youths, so it does for 4-H. Now is the time to enroll or re-enroll for Dunn County 4-H. To enroll for the 2026-2027 year, simply decide which Dunn County 4-H Club you'd like to join.  You can read about the clubs by going to Dunn County 4-H’s Club Page HERE. Then go to 4honline.com, sign in or create an account, and fill in the necessary information about yourself and your child.  At this point, you select the 4-H club and choose any projects that your child might be interested in. It was a victory for the Dunn County 4-H members who attended the Fourth Annual Night at the Races at the Red Cedar Speedway on Friday, August 14th.  The Red Cedar Speedway went above and beyond by generously providing free admission to all our 4-H members.  The 4-H members had a pre-race party with food, lawn games and fun activities.  During the race, they sat in their own section and had the honor of going on to the infield to recite the 4-H Pledge.

On August 17, during a Dunn County 4-H Youth Activities Council trip to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, eight Dunn County 4-H members had a unique experience rescuing endangered native freshwater mussels. Because of record low water levels and drought conditions, native freshwater mussels are being stranded on the St. Croix River’s dry shores and shallow rock pockets. These exposed mussels face severe risks of dehydration and stress due to lack of water or high water temperatures. The 4-H members demonstrated the fourth part of the 4-H pledge, “My hands to larger service” by assisting the park ranger in relocating the mussels into deeper water.

The Dunn County 4-H Dairy Judging youths had much success at the 2026 State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in Madison on August 23rd.  The Junior Team was named STATE CHAMPS! The Junior Team members, Aubrey and Mackenzie McClelland, Anya and Marlies Lange, Abigail Dietsche, and Sophia Bauer have had an outstanding season.  Aubrey, Mackenzie, Anya, and Abigail judged during the State Dairy Judging Contest while Marlies and Sophia served as Leads People who lead the dairy cattle into the arena to be judged. The team also won the Type Analysis Questionnaire portion of the contest which is a written component used in youth dairy cattle judging contests.
