4-H Grows Here

Attending camp gives many young people a chance to grow.  Dunn County 4-H offered two types of opportunities for its members to go to “camp” this summer.  First, was their traditional 4-H Summer Camp where 4-H Youths in grades 3-6 attended base camp at Kamp Kenwood in Chippewa Falls while youths in grades 7-9 attended camp at Lake Wissota State Park for an Outpost Camp experience. Second, was their new Outdoor Adventure Days at Hoffman Hills State Recreational Area which was held on June 29 and 30th for 4-H members grades 3-6th.  

Dunn County Educator, Zac Rozmiarek, explained. "Camp is an important part of the 4-H program. Studies have been done that show the social-emotional benefits that going to camp provides for youth.  That is why, in addition to our overnight program, we presented the Outdoor Adventure Days. This program allowed kids who could not go to camp have a similar experience."

Dunn County 4-H Summer Softball is in full swing for its members. Juniors (8-12 years old) play on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. and Seniors (13 years old and up) play on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m.  Visit the Dunn County 4-H softball page for the 2026 schedule, consent forms and more at https://dunn.extension.wisc.edu/4-h-youth-development/projects/4-h-softball/.

There is one more Summer Project Day.  This Friday, 4-H youths will learn how to make recycled paper and their own stamps to decorate a wooden tray that they can use to carry everything home in.  At an earlier Summer Project Day, 4-H youths learned the science behind engineering by using tasty items!

Dunn and Pepin County 4-H are excited to announce a new event called the Woodland Makers and Explorers Program which will be held at Caddie Woodlawn Park on August 10 from 9:00-11:30 a.m.  This program, which is open to all 4-H Youth but is geared towards youths in Kindergarten-Third grades, will provide opportunities for them to explore nature and try hands-on pioneer‑style activities like butter making, pinecone bird feeders, and other woodland crafts. Youths are encouraged to celebrate creativity, teamwork, and the natural beauty of the park by being a part of this fun, skill‑building day!
