ree

Virginia (Ginny) Kay Jatnieks, age 85, crossed her Jordan into the Promised Land on October 6, 2025, with her beloved husband by her side.

Born on April 2, 1940, to the late Alfred and Katherine (Aune) Schoenoff. Ginny graduated from St. Olaf College of Northfield, MN with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She married the love of her life, Andrievs (Andy) Jatnieks, on August 24, 1963, in Menomonie, Wisconsin. She chose to stay home and care for her husband and children, where she thrived in keeping an active and loving home with her boys.

Ginny spent a large part of her life in the kitchen, whether cooking, baking, canning or managing the household from her desk at the kitchen table. She always had a special meal or dessert planned for every guest and for every occasion. For Christmas she would lovingly bake and mail beautiful cookies and treats to family members. Her treasured recipes have been lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Books were a huge part of Ginny’s life, whether it was crime and detective stories from the library or new mystery releases on her Kindle. Besides reading, she was an avid card player and enjoyed playing all types of games with the family as well as computer games like Mahjong and Solitaire. She also enjoyed music, especially Broadway musicals, and could often be found singing along with her favorite hymns while she went about her daily activities. She loved animals and flowers and loved to watch the birds out of her kitchen window.

Ginny was a kind, sweet, gentle soul who loved to write and found great joy in writing many letters to her family and friends throughout the years. We will always cherish the special feeling of getting a card from Mom/Grandma, complete with a dollar and personal handwritten letter for every holiday and occasion.

Though her journey on earth has ended, her legacy of grace and compassion will live on in all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Andy; her sons Daniel (Gracie) of San Jose, CA, and Steven (Vicky) of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Alyssa, Stephanie, Felicity, Rebecca, Janis, Laima, Malorie, and Andrew; great-grandchildren Rowyn and Jax; sister Nancy Armstrong; daughter-in-law Stephanie Jatnieks; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas; her parents, Alfred and Katherine (Aune) Schoenoff; and sister, Ruth Harbour.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 503 Schmidt Ave, Rothschild, WI, with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. Food and drinks will be served in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Mt. Calvary Good Samaritan Fund, a cause dear to Virginia’s heart. Family and friends are invited to leave messages of remembrance at www.MWCS.WS.
