Dennis Dale Swenby age 63, of Downing passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2026 in Hudson Township. He was born on March 24, 1963 to Douglas and Avis(Stoner) Swenby in Menomonie WI.
He went to school in Glenwood City where he played many sports and held the school record for the 100-yard dash for many years. After school he went to work in the construction field and in 1987 joined the Local 139 Engineers/Operators Union where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in June of 2025.
Dennis enjoyed driving the countryside looking for the next great find he could bring home and tinker with, be it a tractor, snowmobile, or gas engine. He enjoyed spending time at tractor pulls or car/snowmobile shows and was always up for a good debate on pretty much any subject.
In the spring of 1995, he and his long-term girlfriend Debbie bought a small hobby farm just up the road from where he grew up. He took a lot of pride in keeping up the old buildings and yard and recently was working on planting over a 100 mum plants along the barn.
He is survived by his siblings Debby (Eugene) Klatt, David (Pam) Swenby, Denise Timblin, Darrin Swenby and friends Judy Southern, Darla (Robert) Utecht, Devin (Brandee) Swenby, and Dori (Scott) Goodell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Avis Swenby, brother Dan Swenby, sister-in-law Marlys Swenby, and his long-term girlfriend Debra Labs.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2026 from 2-6 p.m. at the home of Devin and Brandee Swenby, 900 Rowley Road, Downing WI, which is where Dennis grew up. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville, WI.
