The Menomonie Police Department recently shared a link to a story that appeared on WQOW about a Menomonie woman that was scammed out of $17,000. You can watch it here.
Unfortunately, scams like this are far too common, especially since scammers can reach victims electronically, and even via text.
Remember: -If you feel pressured by someone telling you that you owe money, take time to verify the validity of the claim.
-If a situation seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Scams like this can be devastating for victims and it can be nearly impossible to recover the lost money, especially if money was sent via gift cards or cryptocurrency.
