Larry L. Batchelder

Larry L. Batchelder, age 88, of Menomonie, WI passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, June 27, 2025 at Comforts of Home in Menomonie.

He was born March 25, 1937 in the Town of Tainter, Dunn Co. WI to Lee and Vivian (Butler) Batchelder. He was raised in the Town of Menomonie, attended Beaver Creek Country School and graduated from Dunn County Aggie in 1956.

Larry and his brother Ken took over the family farm on Irvington Hill and worked as a team for over 30 years. After selling the farm in the early 90's, Larry went on to work janitorial jobs for a number of years before starting at TTM Technologies in 2001. He continued at TTM until retiring in 2019. He truly enjoyed his job at TTM and everyone that he worked with.

Larry met the love of his life, Rachel, at Luther Park Bible Camp when they both attended a Christian Singles session. They were married on October 6, 1984, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek, WI. Rachel preceded him in death on February 8, 2013.

They welcomed their daughter Mary into the world on November 15, 1986. Larry had a shadow from the moment Mary could walk, and Rachel often found the two of them together down in the dairy barn milking cows or enjoying a refreshing drink from the bulk tank. Mary married Tyler Wayne on August 16, 2008. They gave Larry two beautiful granddaughters, Kayla in 2012, and Lily in 2014. They were the light of his life, and he so enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with them. Sunday lunches were de rigor.

Larry was the salt of this earth and always had the best outlook on life. Even after he sold the farm, it was not uncommon to find him on the tractor doing yard work, digging the large garden that Rachel would tend, or cutting up logs to burn for the winter. He was one of the hardest working men that you could find and would light up any room with his smile. He always had a joke to make you laugh and never wanted to take life too seriously. He would always say life was too short to be sour.

Larry moved into Comforts of Home in October of 2021 where he joyfully lived out the last years of his life. Not only was he beautifully taken care of, but he was able to be a social butterfly and spend time playing games and laughing with the other residents. He loved razzing the staff and would boast about all his ladies that were taking care of him. In March, Larry went on hospice care with St. Croix Hospice, and the extra level of care ensured that he was kept comfortable until he joined his loving wife Rachel to spend the rest of eternity together.

Mary and Tyler would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Comforts of Home who cared so much for and loved Larry during his time there. They would also like to extend their gratitude to the St. Croix Hospice care team for their compassion and support during Larry’s final months. His final years on this earth were everything that he could have asked for.

Larry is survived by his loving daughter, Mary, his son-in-law Tyler, granddaughters Kayla and Lily, and many loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, his sister and brothers, and many other family members and loved ones.

Funeral Services will take place at 11:00a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor August Hohl officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Cedar Falls Cemetery, Red Cedar Township, Dunn County.
