Sigurd "Art" A. Sorenson

Sigurd Arthur Sorenson, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at The Neighbors of Dunn County.
Art was born on May 6, 1932 to Arthur and Beulah (Midje) Sorenson in Glenwood township, Wisconsin. He grew up on a farm between Downing and Boyceville, along with his parents and 2 sisters.
His favorite memory as a child was playing with all his neighbors, including swimming in the creek, fishing, homemade bow and arrow hunting, skating on homemade ice skates, and getting pulled on sleds behind the horses in the winter.
He graduated from Boyceville High School Class of 1950 and always enjoyed attending his class reunions. During high school, he played football and baseball. Upon completing high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of First Lieutenant and served during the Korean Conflict. He proudly served 5 years, 2 months, and 19 days, when he was honorably discharged. After that, he worked as a brick layer where he helped build many homes, barns, and schools in the area. He spent the rest of his career working for the Dunn County Maintenance Department in Menomonie where he put all of his skills and knowledge to work, and eventually retired from.
He married Jane Schlough at the Ridgeland United Methodist Church in 1960 and together they raised five children, all of whom he was very proud of. He enjoyed raising beef cattle on his hobby farm, along with caring for honey bees, and working his land. Some of his passions were fishing, deer hunting, walks in the woods, and even running some marathons in his early fifties. Later in life, he enjoyed morning coffee groups with Jane and friends with always a good story in hand to tell. He followed the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers along with enjoying an occasional trip to the Casino with Jane.
He, along with Jane, attended as many activities and sporting events as possible for his children and grandchildren. He cherished family gatherings and holidays and always knew all of his children and grandchildren’s birthdays by memory till the end.
Art is survived by his five children: Jodie (Dick) Prine, Heidi (Todd) Swartz, Jamie Sorenson, Jeremy (Kate) Sorenson, John (Susan) Sorenson; and seven grandchildren: Porter, Hayden (Shelby), Ian (Bryn), Noah, Owen, Oliver, Eleanor; and one great grandchild Archer. Brother-in-law Mert Cowley, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Beulah Sorenson, father and mother-in-law Mike and Viola Schlough, his wife Jane of over 60 years, sisters Geneva Alford and Susy Eisele, and sister-in-law Kathy Cowley.
The family would like to give a special thanks to The Neighbors of Dunn County for their care and compassion where he resided for the last 4 years.
