Gregory Allen Mickelson, 80, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, passed away on May 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Greg was born on January 3, 1946, and spent his early years in the New Richmond and Amery areas of Wisconsin. In 1960, his family moved to Menomonie to establish Northside Motors, beginning a lifelong connection to the community he would proudly call home. He attended Menomonie High School and graduated in 1964.
A gifted athlete and dedicated student, Greg developed a lifelong passion for sports, particularly football. He played for both Menomonie High School and the University of Wisconsin–Stout. During his time at Stout, Greg continued to build lasting friendships and deepen his commitment to community involvement as a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. Among his proudest accomplishments was being named an Academic All-American while playing on UW–Stout’s 1965 Championship Football Team. Greg proudly graduated from Stout in 1967 with a Business Degree.
While attending Stout, Greg met and married Jacquelin C. Foley.
Following college, Greg joined his father in the family business at Northside Motors and later opened Northtown Ford next door. Although the dealership was always close to his heart, Greg was rarely confined to an office. His true office was on wheels, and he could often be seen driving his familiar routes throughout town at all hours of the day. His presence in Menomonie was constant, and few people knew the community better than Greg.
Outside of work, Greg loved following his sons; never missing a football game, their number one fan. Greg had a deep love for the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers; rarely missed a home game. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, sharing meals at his favorite restaurants, listening to live music, and enjoying a good cocktail with family and friends. He never met a stranger and never passed up an opportunity for conversation. Greg will be remembered for his quick wit, colorful stories, one-line jokes, and the genuine interest he took in the lives of others.
More than anything, Greg loved his family and cherished the relationships he built throughout his life. His warmth, humor, generosity, and enduring connection to the Menomonie community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Greg’s legacy lives on in the countless friendships he made, the community he helped build, and the family he loved so dearly.
His family is planning a celebration of his life on Friday, June 12th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Lucette Brewing Company, Menomonie WI.
