David C. Kraft



David C. Kraft age 86, of Menomonie, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday May 5, 2025 at The Neighbors of Dunn County and is now reunited with his beloved wife, Arlene, who preceded him in death in 2024.


David was born on November 2, 1938 in the town of Dunn, Dunn County, WI, to Cyril and Eileen (Tibbetts) Kraft. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1957.


On June 8, 1968, David married Arlene Mary Schlough at Hay River Lutheran Church near Wheeler, WI. They lived in Menomonie until they bought a house in Cedar Falls (a few miles north of Menomonie) in 1970. They welcomed a son, Steven, in 1972.


David proudly served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He worked as a custodian for UW-Stout for many years before retiring in 1999. A passionate outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending gun shows, and was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was a charter member of the Menomonie Rifle & Pistol Club and a dedicated member of the Dunn County Fish & Game Association. In 2015, he was awarded the Dunn County Conservationist of the year award. Committed to safety and education, he served as a Hunter Safety Instructor since 1993.


David is survived by his son, Steven Kraft; sister Patricia Dahn; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Schlough and Darlene Kraft; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends and neighbors.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; parents, Cyril and Eileen; brother Richard Kraft; and brothers-in-law Arnold Schlough and James Dahn.


The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Neighbors of Dunn County for their compassionate care.


A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI, with Pastor August Hohl officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, south of Downsville, WI. Military Honors will be performed by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
