After years of work, the City of Menomonie is nearing completion of removing boulevard trees impacted by emerald ash borer.

So far this year, crews have removed over 240 trees, with just 8 boulevard ash trees remaining. Once those are completed, removal of ash trees along boulevards will be finished. Tree removals include not only ash trees affected by emerald ash borer, but also trees that are storm-damaged or in declining condition.

What happens next?

Replacement tree planting begins this spring, with another round planned for fall. Around 10 different tree varieties will be planted to help create a more resilient urban forest and reduce the risk of future widespread loss.

Stump removal will take place later this fall.

This work is part of a long-term effort to maintain safe streets, protect our urban forest, and ensure new trees can grow for years to come.

We appreciate the work of our Community Services team and your patience as this process continues.
