There is a statewide initiative to bring existing sidewalk curb ramps on state highways into Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. On these segments of roadway, WisDOT has identified several curb ramp deficiencies, including the lack of raised detectable warning fields and level landing areas, substandard flares, steep grades and substandard horizontal geometry.

During construction, each curb ramp location will be investigated to verify if it meets current ADA standards. Any curb ramps within the project limits not meeting standards will be evaluated and, if possible, removed and replaced with an ADA-compliant curb ramp. Those existing ramps that cannot be made compliant will be constructed to be as compliant as possible and documented as “max extent feasible without extensive roadway reconstruction”.

Motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging where crews are working. Any temporary disruption of existing pedestrian facilities/flow during construction will be mitigated through the use of temporary pedestrian facilities when feasible.

Construction is currently scheduled for 2029.
