WisDOT seeking public input on I-94 project in Dunn County

Proposed work includes making concrete repairs on I-94 and completing work on two bridges and at Menomonie rest areas


The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public comment on a proposed rehabilitation project on I-94 from 550 feet west of the culvert carrying the interstate over the east branch of Wilson Creek to 2,000 feet east of the Red Cedar River bridges in the Dunn County city of Menomonie and towns of Menomonie and Red Cedar.

Three structures along I-94 and interstate pavement need rehabilitation. WisDOT is proposing the following on or at:


I-94:
  • Making concrete repairs on east- and westbound lanes on I-94

  • Milling and repaving asphalt shoulders​

  • Cleaning ​culverts and retying culvert joints

  • Cleaned ditches and making embankment repairs

  • Replacing substandard guardrail and pavement markings​


I-94/WIS 25 interchange:
  • Making concrete repairs on the interchange ramps

  • Replacing curb ramps on the south interchange ramps


Culvert carrying I-94 over the east branch of Wilson Creek
  • Replacing 50 feet of the north end of the culvert and its end wall​


Bridge carrying WIS 25 (Broadway Street) over I-94
  • Replacing the bridge joints and the approach slabs

  • Repairing the back wall​

  • Patching and fiber wrapping girder ends and pier caps


Bridge carrying Wilson Street over I-94
  • Overlaying the bridge deck with concrete


Rest areas 61 and 62
  • Repairing pavement and asphalt shoulders

  • Realigning car ramp entrances

  • Reconstructing inlets

  • Making spot repairs to curb, gutter and sidewalk

  • Replacing sidewalk curb ramps, signs and pavement markings

  • Installing new lighting and a truck informational system​

  • Making improvements to historical markers and landscaping


Construction is currently scheduled for 2027.


During construction, I-94 will remain open, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures during off-peak travel times.


In addition:

  • A short-term single-lane closure on westbound on I-94 will be needed to complete the structure work at the east branch of Wilson Creek.

  • The remaining structure repairs will be completed using staged construction with single-lane closures.

  • WIS 25 interchange ramp repairs will be completed with overnight ramp closures.

  • Rest areas will remain open to traffic except during critical work operations.
