William H. Christoffersen, of Menomonie, WI passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
William was born March 9, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Harold and Esther (Rognas) Christoffersen. He grew up in the Chicago area, graduated from Steinmetz High School, and attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Bill, as friends knew him, went into the army after graduation and served for 3 years. While in the army, he was in parachute “jump” school, Special Forces, and Military Intelligence.
Bill married Karen Walker in 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. Together they had two children, David William and Elizabeth Anne. Among many professions, Bill was most known as a professional writer and editor for the trade journal published by Union Special Corporation. Bill also worked at the Dunn County News before retirement.
Bill married Rita (Todd) Mahan in 1992, and resided in the home they built together in the woods of Menomonie, Wisconsin. They enjoyed many adventures together, including traveling extensively around Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and other states.
Bill was a small aircraft pilot, WWII history buff, and won many awards as an expert marksman. He was also an artist and craftsman, including metal sculpting and woodworking. Bill’s other interests included classical music, along with studying philosophy and the works of classical scholars. Bill was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.
William is survived by his wife Rita of Menomonie, his daughter Elizabeth of Downer’s Grove, IL, grandchildren Troy William Chatman of Westmont, IL, and Nichole (Lynch) Sylvester of Cayuga, New York. He is also survived by two step daughters, Robin (Mahan) Carbajal and Tracy (Mahan) Mooney, and grandchildren Lilliana and Freya Sylvester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther, his sister Rita Nelson, and his son David.
Bill’s family wishes to share their deep gratitude for the compassion and excellent care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff at Luther Hospital of Eau Claire.
Funeral services begin with a visitation at 10:00am, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00am on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Celebrant Teresa Pejsa officiating.
