Trails, tubing, and skating ready to go

Updated: 5 days ago

With this past weekend's snowfall, winter activities are set to open in the area.

Snowmobile Trails

UPDATE: SNOWMOBILE TRAILS CLOSED ON JANUARY 5TH.

All Dunn County trails will open January 1, 2026, at 6 am, with the exception of a section of Trail 11, which is closed and will not open for the season (see picture for reference).

Please ride with caution as we have early-season conditions. There may still be areas with low-hanging branches, standing water, dips, and ditches that have not been filled in with snow, as well as rough fields.

Trail 18, East of the Wheeler tower, will have active logging alongside the trail. Please ride with caution!

Yield to the Groomers.

Stay on marked trails.

Ride smart.

Ride safe.

Happy New Year!

The clubs and groomer operators are all volunteers. They all have jobs and other responsibilities too. We understand that not opening the trails at the first sight of snow upsets some. Join a club and get involved. All clubs could use more members. Be patient. Ask how you can help. Lend a hand. Our first priority is to our landowners, our second is the safety of the riders.

WoodWind Park

After a HUGE snowstorm, the park is officially in winter mode, and our team is out dealing with snow removal and grooming.

The goal right now: tubing lanes dialed in and ready to roll for January 1st.

We’re beyond excited to finally see the hills covered and start bringing winter back to life out here. We’ll be sharing updates as we go, including tubing progress and whether skating can open. So keep a close eye on our Facebook and Instagram stories over the next two days.

Red Cedar Trail and Hoffman Hills

The Red Cedar Trail is open for cross-country skiing. The trail is designated for skiing from Menomonie to Downsville. Signs are up stating it is for skiing only. Walking, running, and hiking can be done south of Downsville or north of the Depot on the Junction Trail. Please do not walk, run, or hike on the designated ski trails as it completely destroys the grooming.

Some walkers incorrectly think that the middle "corduroy" section is for feet, but actually that is the most dangerous place to put footprints. That corduroy is for fast skate-skiers, who could crash catastrophically if they hit footprint potholes. Please keep feet and dogs off the trail when it is groomed.

Hoffman is 70% open (from a Facebook post dated 12/30) and in great shape. Trail to Tower is open for skiing. Some trails had heavy tree damage/ debris and are not groomed. Lots of skiable terrain to explore!

Buy your state trail ski passes at https://red-cedar-trail-and-hoffman-hills.square.site/ to support our local trails.

Remember -- the Red Cedar Trail and most of Hoffman Hills are official state ski trails, closed to walking and biking once the signs are up. These are the only public ski trails in our part of the state, and our volunteer groomers do a huge amount of work to keep these trails safe and fast.
