Whether you're rediscovering the joy of gaming as an adult, exploring what it means to build a community where everyone belongs, or using storytelling to reflect on the people and places that have shaped your life, each event offers opportunities to learn, create, and connect. Designed for curious adults of all backgrounds, Stout After Hours is less like a lecture and more like a community gathering—one that encourages conversation, creativity, and meaningful connections. Come for the art, performances, and ideas; leave with new perspectives, new experiences, and new connections.
Join us for the inaugural Stout After Hours event, Community at Play, and discover how play brings people together. Through engaging conversations and hands-on experiences, you'll explore the growing hobbyist board game culture, learn why play is important to creativity and well-being (for youth as well as for adults), and get a behind-the-scenes look at how artists, writers, and designers create games.
The evening will feature a panel of Stout faculty whose work connects to games and play, a showcase of published board game artwork created by Stout faculty, and an opportunity to try beginner-friendly games with guidance from experienced players.
Hosted in the Ink Spot on the third floor of the Swanson Library, the event will also highlight the library's extensive board game collection, available for students and community members alike. Hot and cold appetizers along with infused water will be provided. Beer, wine, seltzer, and soda will be available for purchase.
