Richard A. Weghorn

Richard Allen Weghorn age 90 of Menomonie, WI passed away on Monday August 18, 2025, at his home.

He was born March 10, 1935, in Spring Valley, WI to Harland and Stella Weghorn (Miller). He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1953, from UW-Eau Claire in 1957, and received his Master of Education degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1969.

Richard married Barbara LaVille Clark on February 23, 1957, and together they shared over 68 years of love and partnership. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was the joy of his life.

He dedicated his career to public education which he began as an English teacher at Rice Lake (WI) High School and then at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, WI. In 1969 Richard shifted his education career into administration to become High School Principal in Phillips, WI. He was Principal for 8 years before he became the District Administrator and served the School District of Phillips in that capacity until his retirement in 1992.

Outside of work, Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking, card games, the occasional trip to Las Vegas, growing fruit to share with others, and generally relaxing, whether that was in Phillips, Menomonie, or while snow-birding in Mesa, Arizona. Above all, he enjoyed time with family and with all those he cared about. Richard will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and wisdom. His love of theater, sing-alongs, and good wit worked in tandem bringing a smile to those around him.

Richard is survived by his wife Barbara of Menomonie, two daughters: Lisa Bub of Medford, WI and Pamela Martin of Menomonie, WI, and a son: Steven Weghorn of Menomonie, WI. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harland and Stella Weghorn, his brother Jack Weghorn, and son David Weghorn.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on August 29, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Bob Friese officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service with lunch following the service. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie. Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories of Richard’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of son David.

Richard’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
