This morning, we were lucky to celebrate Arbor Day in beautiful spring weather as we presented the Friends of Forestry Award to the Menomonie Public Library!
Remarks were shared by Mayor Matthew Crowe, Urban Forestry Board Chair Liz Usborne, and Library Director Joleen Sterk. City staff, the Urban Forestry Board, and community members all came together to celebrate.
A hackberry tree, planted the day prior by City Forester Derek Kahl and Community Services staff, was admired during the celebration. Liz Usborne shared a thoughtful reflection on the connection between libraries and trees, highlighting how both serve as spaces for growth, learning, and community.
With both Earth Week and National Library Week, it was a perfect time to celebrate the connection between our trees, our library, and our community.
Thank you to the Menomonie Public Library for all you do. We’re grateful for your role in helping our community grow and thrive. Congratulations on receiving this year’s Friends of Forestry Award!
