Menomonie Optimists Club name April Youth of the Month

By David Williams

The Menomonie Optimist Club has named Kevin Vang of Menomonie High School as Youth of the Month.  Optimists have been honoring outstanding young people from Dunn County’s four high schools for over 30 years.

Kevin Vang is the April Youth of the Month from Menomonie High School.  Kevin was honored April 17th by the Menomonie Optimist Club for his outstanding academic, extracurricular and community activities.  He has been an honor roll student throughout high school, taking AP and advanced classes whenever possible.  His favorite class areas are Spanish, math, sciences and music.  He currently serves as president of the Concert Chorus.  Kevin also joined the School Dance Team as a senior and is a leader with the three other seniors on the team.  The team went to state where they placed sixth in Division 2 Hip Hop competition.  Kevin also went to state where his solo performance won him All State Finalist honors.

Kevin plans to attend either UW-Madison or the University of Minnesota for a chemistry/pre-med program, with dreams of becoming a dermatologist.  Kevin is the son of Charlie Ber Vang and Me Her Vang.

Menomonie Optimists also provide work project opportunities for area schools at Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area, give a dictionary to every third-grade student in Dunn County each year, and sponsor the Menomin Meander, a family-oriented and free bike ride around Lake Menomin each August.
