Marvin C. Michels “Pete” age 85, of Elk Mound, WI passed away peacefully Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Eau Claire with his family by his side.
He was born in Eau Claire to Carl and Alice (Raddatz) Michels. He grew up in Elk Mound and graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1958.
After high school he worked on a neighborhood farm and then attended Eau Claire Vocational School and graduated as a journeyman machinist. He began working at Johnson’s Plastics in Chippewa Falls in 1962 and worked there until its closure in 1981. He then worked at MRM Elgin, Corporation in Menomonie, WI until 2003. He finished his working career delivering parts for Fabco/CAT and enjoyed driving all over Wisconsin meeting new people. He served many years on the Barum Lutheran Church council and on the Elk Mound town board.
Marv married Carol Balts on August 29, 1970 in Hillsdale, WI. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to Canada, working in the garden, picking wild blackberries, and especially enjoyed camping at Lake Superior. He spent many hours reading and completing jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid Packers and NASCAR fan and loved his Ford pickups. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren's athletic events and he will forever be their biggest fan.
He is survived by his wife Carol of Elk Mound; 2 daughters Michele (Dan) Curry of Elk Mound, Darla (Doug) Diermeier of Elk Mound. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Dylan and Abigail Curry and McKenna and Kamron Diermeier, sister-in-law Lois Gustum, many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alice, parents-in-law Leonard and Anita Balts, brother George (Lucy) Thiess, 4 brothers-in-law Donald (Pearl) Balts, Norman Balts, Richard (Sharran) Balts, and Orland Gustum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Barum Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI. There will be a brief service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Hal Schroetter officiating. A private burial will be at a later date.
