Eldin R. Stevens

Eldin “Eldie” Roy Stevens, age 95, of Boyceville, WI passed away May 7, 2025 at Glenhaven Nursing Home in Glenwood City, WI.

Eldin was born in Boyceville, Wi on March 23, 1930, to Melvin Stevens and Lilah (Williams) Stevens. He came into the world weighing only 4 pounds 8 ounces. Because of his tiny size his first bed was a cake pan on the warmer side of the wood stove. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1947. He married Marilyn Jean Davis on September 2nd, 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. They enjoyed over 74 years of a happy marriage.

Eldie and Marilyn lived in Wheeler for 70 years raising 4 children there, then moving to Boyceville in 2020. Eldie lived at Glenhaven nursing home for the last months of his life, where he passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Eldie did many things in his life, he always lived life to the fullest. He worked at Wheeler Oil Company, later purchasing it and renaming it Stevens 66 Station. He was a born salesman and sold mainly in the farming business. He was Sales manager for Hedlund Manufacturing in Boyceville, then Sales Manager at Brave Harvestore in Menomonie. There he achieved one of the top 5 sales managers in the nation 2 years in a row. He then purchased Minnesota Harvestore Structures in Foley, MN. When the farm economy took a turn for the worse, he became a stockbroker for E F Hutton. In 1987 he went back to his love of agriculture, purchasing Kenny Dairy equipment in Menomonie, and later did sales for Weiser Concrete and Larson Industries. He did design and sales for Design Build Structures out of Chippewa Falls and was still working for them until covid slowed him down at the age of 90.

Along with his active work life, Eldie also had a passion for helping others and teaching youth. He served for 25 years on Conservation Congress, was a Boy Scout scout Master for 10 years, was an instructor for the Flying Aces Ski Jump Club out of Wheeler for 6 years, was active in the Northwest Rod and Gun Club, acting as president for 15 years, and was a hunter safety instructor for 15 years. He set up the first Hunter Safety program in the state, with his son David earning the 6th certificate given in the state. He was on the Wheeler Village Board for 22 years and spent many years on the council for Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler, where he was a member since 1937.

Eldie was a man of strong faith, and his main focus was always family. He loved to fish, hunt, travel, and wanted his family with as he did all of this. He traveled to Canada 1 to 3 times a year for most of his adult life to fish, and took along his kids, grandkids and wife for the trip, even though some of them went reluctantly. He believed in learning from travel and was always ready to tell a story about a place he’d been, or to stop at some out of the way mile marker that had a historical plaque and make everyone get out and read it.

Eldie is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Marilyn, 4 children David (Carla) of Boyceville, Doug (Sandy) of Comstock, WI, Debbie (the late Jeff) Mittlestadt of rural Boyceville , Tracy (Wes) Holtz of Stewart MN; 10 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Jeff Mittlestadt and his brother Ronald.
