Dunn County Sheriff's Office issues Scam Alert
Recently, individuals have been contacted regarding a family member who had just been booked into the Dunn County Jail. The caller identifies themselves as a Dunn County Correctional Officer or a Deputy and requests funds for either bond or electronic monitoring to have the family member released. They will direct the family to make a Venmo or some other type of electronic payment through a third-party app.
This is a SCAM.
Dunn County Jail will never contact anyone directly for bond or payment. The incarcerated individual will be allowed calls for this purpose but still remain wary of whether someone is posing as them if contacted. The scammers are mining information from outside websites to obtain incarcerated individuals' information.
