Clark “Ed” Smith, age 85, of Menomonie, WI passed away Monday, March 17, 2025 at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.
He was born May 25, 1939 in Indiana to Paul and Margaret (Reed) Smith. Ed came to UW Stout in the 1960s with the intention of staying no longer than a year. However, he eventually retired from UW Stout as a Professor in 2005. He met his wife Joy when they were in Middle School and later married in 1998. Ed was the owner of Quality Printing, student rentals, and developed Thursday’s Table free meal program at the First Congregational Church in Menomonie.
Ed enjoyed being a carpenter and a Scout Leader. He explored the Boundary Waters many times with family and friends creating everlasting memories. Ed was an educator, community leader, helped establish the Menomonie Youth Hockey program, served on the City Council, and was a Rotarian.
Ed is survived by his wife Joyanne of Menomonie, son Conrad (Ann) Smith, daughters Janel (Mark) Holden and Valerie (Chad) Mayer. He is also survived by stepsons Thad (Valerie) Monthie, Rod (Tara) Monthie; stepdaughters Garnet Monthie and Deborah (Kevin) Isensee. Ed has fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Don (Nona) Smith; sister Sara Crister and Wilma Owen Smith who is the mother of his three wonderful children.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Paul and Jean Smith and brother Paul Henry Smith.
Ed’s family will be forever grateful for the special care he received at American Lutheran Home over the past year and a half.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Karen Martinson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
