Carol D. Erickson

The family of Carol D. Erickson, age 84, of Boyceville, Wisconsin, is saddened to announce her passing on May 05, 2025. Her final hours were spent surrounded at various times by her children, several grandchildren, siblings, and family. Her loss marks a profound ending to a wonderful life fulfilled with family, public service, and her giving nature.

Carol was born January 21, 1941, to Ralph and Doris (Loveland) Hattery, and grew up in Otter Creek in rural Dunn County, Wisconsin. She was one of ten siblings, graduated from high school in Colfax, Wisconsin, at 16 years of age, and was off to Barron County to earn her teaching certificate. She was teaching in the last one room schoolhouse in the area at 18 years old.

Carol continued her education where she met the love of her life, Ted Erickson, and they were married in July 1961. Carol and Ted both taught school in Webster, Wisconsin, and welcomed their first of three children, Debra (John) Woods. Carol took a job teaching for Boyceville, and they moved to Wheeler. Shortly after Bradley (Lisa Makenzie-Anderson) Erickson was born, they moved to Boyceville where they resided when Heidi (Barry) Guy was born.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education while simultaneously teaching, and in 1976, they moved to rural Wheeler. Carol had been previously placed as the Building Principal at the Wheeler Elementary School and she and Ted longed to return to their roots and reside in the country.

She remained in Wheeler in a dual role, both administration and teaching, until the opening of the Tiffany Creek Elementary School in Boyceville where she remained until 1999, when she retired after 37 years as an educator. She loved her job, taught all of the grades in elementary, but held the fourth graders closest to her heart as her favorite age to work with.

She and Ted had moved to a house back in Boyceville, and they eventually started to winter in Yuma, Arizona, with a group of amazing friends. The continued their yearly migration for several years before Ted’s health disallowed it. She was involved in her Church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville, specifically in a quilter’s group. They made countless quilts which were sent around the world to deployed soldiers, various local hospitals as comfort items, and more.

Carol was a prolific crafter and made Christmas ornaments, stockings, and quilts for special events for her children and grandchildren as she was able. However, her greatest gifts were the over 1000 baby sweaters and hats that she crocheted, donated, and sent worldwide for the less fortunate.

Her three children provided her with her other joy, eight grandchildren, Mitchell (Brandy); Aaron; and Desiree (Tim) Price, Emily (Xavier); Hannah; and Jacey Guy, and Abigail and Braden (Amber) Erickson.

Carol was preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Ted (2023), her grandson Aaron (2000), her parents, in laws, several siblings and their spouses, and other close friends and family.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville, WI with Pastor Brad Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Hay River Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Hay River, Dunn County, WI.

Carol loved flowers! But if you are considering a donation, it is suggested to purchase school supplies for a local student, a gift of money to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Aaron), The Alzheimer's Association (Ted), or best yet, craft something and pay it forward to those in need.
