C&J Candy Store Expands to Offer Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream

C&J Candy Store, which opened this past summer, has expanded to include ice cream. The Scoop Shoppe opened in March and has taken over the front half of the original store. To accommodate their ever-growing selection of candy, the candy store has expanded into the other half of the building at 342 Main Street E.

The candy store has always been open to customer requests and is continually stocking new and different candies. It was just such a request that led to their expansion into ice cream.

"Customers kept asking for ice cream, so we decided to add the Scoop Shoppe," owner Barbara Bauer-Chen explains.

The Scoop Shoppe serves super-premium Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, a family-owned and operated ice cream company based in Madison, Wisconsin, since 1962.

Sixteen flavors are available daily, including a soy option and Italian Ice. Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream produces dozens of flavors of ice cream, including seasonal and special edition flavors that will rotate at the Scoop Shoppe. However, some flavors like Zanzibar Chocolate, vanilla, and Superman will usually be available. Sherbet will be available during the summer.

Much like the nostalgia candy they carry, the ice cream flavors remind people of their childhood. "They all have something unique, I think. Many people remember certain flavors they had when they were kids." Bauer-Chen said.

The Scoop Shoppe serves sundaes, cones and dishes, shakes and malts, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream nachos. Ice cream nachos, for those unfamiliar, consist of a broken-up waffle cone, two ice cream flavors, two toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry.

C&J Candy Store and Scoop Shoppe is open Sunday through Thursday 11am-5pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am-7pm.
