The Mustangs are on pace to begin their 2025-2026 basketball season after a solid winning record filled previous year.
Menomonie’s 2024-2025 season record was 14-12 (6-8 in conference). The Mustangs look to improve that record this coming season in their 2nd year with new coach Greg Van Grunsven.
Menomonie lost some key players from their success last year, including Brody Thorton, Isaac Ellison, Brady Johnson, and AJ Zydowsky.
The Mustangs found the playoffs last year with these players winning round 1 to Medford and losing the 2nd round to Wausau East.
Returning key players are senior Tyler Nelson, Junior Trevor Roberts, senior Jake Rue, and senior Isaac Nielson, Junior DJ Butler, Senior Max Branch, and Senior Ian Kistner. The Mustangs returning stars will produce points, rebounds, and hopefully wins in the 2025-2026 season.
The Mustangs schedule looks competitive all winter. They will first face the nonconference La Crosse Central Riverhawks on December 2nd here at the High School Gym; The Riverhawks were 15-10 overall and 8-2 in conference. Menomonie starts their Big Rivers Conference play the following game against River Falls at home on December 9th. The schedule then fills in with the rest of conference play and a few nonconference matches.
The boys all are excited for the season, senior Tyler Nelson said, “I’m excited for my last ride with these boys, coach is getting us ready for an awesome season.”
