Eugene “Shag” H. Skjegstad, age 100, of Menomonie, died peacefully on Friday November 28, 2025, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. Gene was born July 20, 1925, in Menomonie, the son of Ole and Vivian (Nelson) Skjegstad. He graduated from Menomonie High School and completed two years at The Stout Institute.  Gene married Virginia Stoll October 16, 1950, in Menomonie. The City of Menomonie’s Community Services Department will begin tree removals this week, with a primary focus on ash trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). What to Expect Crews will begin with high-priority safety removals before moving into the Elmwood Addition neighborhood. After Elmwood is complete, work will shift to North Menomonie neighborhoods. For 13-year-old Dmitrii “Dima” Kuznietsov, the peaceful life he’s found in Menomonie is a stark contrast to the chaos he left behind in war-torn Ukraine.
