Virginia M. Skjegstad

Virginia M. Skjegstad died peacefully on Friday, September 4, the day after her 98th birthday at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. She was born on September 3, 1928, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, to Pete and Myrtle (Lauber) Stoll. Virginia graduated from Menomonie High School with the class of 1946. She married Eugene H. Skjegstad on October 16, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Parsonage.
She worked for many years as a legal secretary until she retired in 1991. Virginia was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the PCCW, Women of The Moose and of the Hospital Auxiliary. As an avid knitter, she donated and gifted hundreds of her knitted mittens, prayer shawls and afghans.
Survivors include three children: Steven (Gigi Schulte) Skjegstad, Sandra (Larry) Hamler and Linda Van Blaricom. Five grandchildren: Troy and Greg Hamler, Elizabeth Bauer, Mitchell (Alicia) Van Blaricom and Jesse Skjegstad. Two brothers: Wally (Betty) Stoll and William (Rose Mary) Stoll and many great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, parents Pete and Myrtle Stoll, daughter Karen and son-in-law Richard Bauer, son-in-law Niles Van Blaricom, brother James and sister-in-law Mary Alice Stoll and infant sister Frances Stoll.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, at 1:00 pm at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie. A Women of the Moose ceremony will follow the visitation at 1:45 pm with the service officiated by Father John Mano starting at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
