Vicki Lea (Wendt) Casper, age 77, of Knapp, WI, passed away peacefully at Park View Home in Woodville, WI on May 1, with her daughter Paula by her side.
She was born on March 22, 1948, in Eau Claire, WI., to parents Roy F. and Janet E. (Barnes) Wendt and grew up on a farm in rural Menomonie, WI. Vicki attended Coddington School in Menomonie through sixth grade and later graduated from Menomonie High School in 1966. She then attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
While growing up, Vicki attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, where she was baptized and confirmed. She had a strong faith in God and particularly liked the 23rd Psalm.
She married David W. Casper on August 16, 1969, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, where she also became a member, and then moved to his family farm in the Town of Lucas. They raised Holstein dairy cattle and Polled Hereford beef cattle together for over four decades and had three children: Mark, Paula, and Lee. Vicki also worked as an RN at a hospital, home health agency, and several nursing homes throughout her nursing career. She retired from nursing in 2010.
With a deep passion for the arts, Vicki was an avid watercolorist and calligrapher. She exhibited her work at many art shows in the Midwest and regularly fulfilled custom orders for paintings and calligraphy. Her love for art extended into teaching and she volunteered her time for over a decade teaching art to students at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Menomonie. Like her late husband Dave, Vicki had a special connection with animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses. They always provided comfort for her when she didn’t feel well or when she had a rough day.
Vicki is survived by her children, Mark (Shirley) Casper, Paula (Casper) Danovsky, and Lee Casper plus grandchildren, Hannah Danovsky, Chloe Danovsky, Gracie Casper, Jed Casper, and Bo Casper. She is also survived by her brother, Mike (Jeanne) Wendt, sister Beckie (Wendt) Ferber, sister Lisa (Pat) Phelps, brother-in-law Richard (Jacki) Casper, special friends Jan Ziebell, Dave & Lynn Dummer, Sheila Grgurich, and Charlotte Matousek—plus special niece Olivia (Steve) Sundby and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dave, her parents Roy & Janet, grandparents, and friends Betty Wyss and Jim Ziebell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI, with Pastor Stephen Oelhafen officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, or the Dunn County Humane Society.
