Steven Michael Schrantz, age 79, of Menomonie, WI passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025 after a long battle with chronic illness with his devoted wife, Kathy, at his side.
He was born November 16, 1946 in Eau Claire, WI to Clarence and Doris (Peterson) Schrantz. He grew up on their family farm in the Elk Mound area with 6 siblings, graduating from Elk Mound High School and continuing his studies at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire where he met his wife of 55 years, Kathleen. He completed his Masters degree at UW Stout.
Steve and Kathy were married February 21, 1970 at Calvary Lutheran in Minocqua, WI and had 5 children together. They raised their family in Menomonie, attending Menomonie Alliance Church together.
Steve was a husband, father, grandpa, teacher, coach, runner, and an avid supporter of all Menomonie and UW Stout athletics. Later in life, he loved walking Florida beaches, cruising around on his side by side and cheering on his grandkids in all their activities.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Menomonie, son Chris and Sarah Schrantz of Menomonie and granddaughters Carmen and Raegen, daughter Amy and Matthew Runion of Minneapolis and grandkids Levi and Kathleen, and daughter Sara and Darrin Spoden of Sartell and grandkids Sophia, Adam, and Lauren. He is also survived by brothers Tony Joe, Mike, and Sam and sisters, Vickie and Mary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jackie, and two prematurely born babies.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Menomonie Alliance Church. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Menomonie Alliance Church with Pastor James Cameron officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served following the service.
