Shirley L. Bengtson

Shirley Bengtson age 78, of Menomonie Wisconsin, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 25, 2025.

She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on July 26, 1947 to Frederick and Hazel (Nasset) Frase. She attended Jobs Country School in the Town of Washington and graduated from Fall Creek High School in 1965. Shirley lived in Eau Claire until her marriage to Howard and they made their home in Baldwin, Wisconsin and in retirement they moved to Menomonie.

Shirley and her husband Howard enjoyed traveling the United States. This created a lifetime of joyous memories for Shirley. Among her favorites were their special getaways exploring the scenic shores of Texas and the Padre Islands and visiting the mountains and the International Peace Gardens.

She found happiness in the company of her family and friends, and her reputation as a lucky bingo player was well-earned, especially during her games at the Senior Center in Menomonie. Shirley's home reflected her passions; she tended to her flower garden to welcome birds and other wildlife, a love that extended to her prized collection of framed wildlife prints.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Beth (Art) Schaller of Hammond, daughter-in-law Laura Close of Menomonie, grandchildren Devin Close, Mason Close (Kaylee), Alex Schaller (Corrine), Bella Schaller, great-grandson Tatum, sisters Carol (Gary) Gehler of Cornell, Wi, Sharon (Ray) Gizewski of Foster Wi, stepchildren and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hazel, husband Howard Bengtson, son Steve Close, sister Connie Matz, and nephew Bob Matz.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday November 1, 2025 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Sarah Miller officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie.
