Gerane Lois (Hoitomt) Stansbury, age 91, of Colfax, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Gerane was born on October 15, 1934, in New Haven Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin, near Connorsville, to Morris and Stella (Strand) Hoitomt. Both of her parents were of Norwegian heritage, though they were born in the United States.
She attended Bolen School, Peaceful Valley, and Oak Ridge School before her family moved to the Boyceville area. Gerane graduated from Boyceville High School with the Class of 1952. Following graduation, she worked in St. Paul, Minnesota, before marrying Gordon Stansbury, on July 7, 1953, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenwood City, Wisconsin.
Music was an important part of Gerane's life. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She loved sewing, painting, gardening, polka dancing, and watching classic movies. Above all, Gerane loved spending time with her family and friends, creating memories they will forever hold close.
Gerane is survived by her four children, Wendy (Brian) Evenson, Diane (David) Olson, Kurt Stansbury, and Kerry Stansbury (Rose); five grandchildren, Matthew (Allyson) Olson, Clint (Courtney) Evenson, Weston (Melanie) Olson, April Evenson, and Braddon (Becca) Olson; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Stansbury; her parents, Morris and Stella Hoitomt; and her sister, Jordis Nelson.
Gerane will be remembered for her kind heart, wonderful sense of humor, warm smile, and the many conversations shared with a cup of coffee in hand.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Brad Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Vanceburg Cemetery in the Town of Sheridan, Dunn County, Wisconsin.
