Sheryl Lee Steinmeyer, age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2026, leaving behind a family who will miss her deeply and who will forever have countless stories to tell because of her.

Sheryl was born on June 20, 1942, at Abbott and Janney Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces. She was the daughter of Roland Schuerman and Rachelle (Haskell).

Sheryl shared 50 years of marriage with her husband, Jim Steinmeyer, with whom she built a life and raised their family. Jim preceded her in death, along with her parents and her sister, Trudy Rice.

Sheryl is survived by her three children, Tammie Silsbee, Tracie (Dale) Wendt, and Jamie (Kelly) Steinmeyer; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who were lucky enough to call her family.

Above all else, Sheryl’s faith was the foundation of her life. It guided the way she lived, the way she raised her children, and the values she hoped to pass down through her family. She was deeply devoted to her church and made certain her children grew up knowing the importance of faith. And when it was time for church, Sheryl believed you went to church. A little Wisconsin ice on the roads certainly wasn’t going to change that. Her children may have occasionally questioned whether the roads were safe enough to make the trip, but Sheryl had a considerably higher threshold for “safe” when church service was involved.

Next to her faith, there was nothing Sheryl treasured more than her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. To her Minnesota grandkids, however, she had another name: “Grandma Wisconsin.” It was a title that stuck and one she wore proudly, as well as “Joneses” from her son, Jamie.

Sheryl had a special way of making things memorable for her grandchildren, particularly around the holidays. Whether she was carrying on family traditions or hiding Easter eggs for the grandkids, her whole-hearted laugh would fill the room as she loved creating those little moments that children remember long after they’ve grown up. Her family now has a lifetime of those memories to hold onto.

Sheryl worked in Registration and Records at the University of Wisconsin–Stout in Menomonie. for 30 years. Even there, her family was never far from her mind. She would come across students’ names she liked and bring them home as suggestions for future grandchildren. In fact, that is exactly how her first grandson, got his name - proof that Grandma was helping name the grandkids before they even arrived.

Through 84 years, Sheryl built a life rooted in faith and filled with love for her family. The faith she lived so steadfastly became part of the legacy she leaves behind, carried forward through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her family will remember the holidays she made special, the names she discovered, the church trips she insisted upon, her laugh when talking on the phone to family and all the ordinary moments that now feel anything but ordinary.

She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI.
