
Richard C. "Dick" Siler, age 89, of Downsville, died peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Dick was born on January 21, 1936 in Menomonie; the son of Lavern and Myrtle Siler.
Dick attended elementary school in Downsville and graduated Menomonie High School in 1953. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1957. Dick taught at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan, for 7 years and then the remainder of his career at Waverly High School in Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed teaching English and French classes. While in Michigan, Dick earned his master’s degree from Michigan State. Dick retired from teaching in 1993, and returned to Downsville to care for his parents.
Beyond his professional life, Dick enjoyed walking, bicycling and reading. He enjoyed wintering at his home in Sarasota, Florida and spending the rest of the year in Downsville. While in Florida, Dick enjoyed dining at the Amish restaurants, spending time on the beach and visiting with his brothers when they came down to visit. Dick thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Christmas and all of its traditions.
Dick's kind heart and warm smile brightened the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. As we bid farewell to Dick, let us remember him not with sadness, but with gratitude for a life well-lived.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Laven and Myrtle Siler, brother Don and sister-in-law Karen.
He is survived by his brother Jerry (Sally) of Eau Claire, WI, Don’s wife Sandy Siler of Baldwin, WI, niece Mindy (Brian) Jacobson, nephew Ron (Angela) Siler, niece Jamie Bretl (John Clough), niece Traci (Pat) Christensen, nephew Lance (Ellie) Siler, as well as many great nieces and nephews and other beloved family members.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Teresa Pejsa officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Township of Dunn, Dunn County, WI. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
