Point Comfort Park improvement update

ree

Pember Excavating will be conducting controlled blasting in Point Comfort Park this afternoon. This work is part of the installation of a new sanitary sewer lift station—an underground facility that helps move wastewater uphill through pipes when gravity alone isn’t enough. Lift stations are critical to keeping our community’s sewer system working properly and protecting public health.

What is blasting?

Blasting involves drilling small holes (about 16 feet deep), placing a limited amount of explosives in each, covering them with soil and mats, and then safely setting them off in a sequence. This fractures the bedrock so it can be removed with normal excavation equipment.

Safety comes first with this project. Nearby homes were offered a pre-blast survey to document their current conditions, and both noise and vibration will be carefully monitored throughout the work. Before each blast, residents will also hear air horns as a clear warning signal.

For those interested in watching, blasting will be visible by boat or from the northeast corner of Point Comfort Park. Just a fair warning—when blasting is done correctly, it isn’t very dramatic!

We appreciate your patience as we make this important infrastructure improvement.
