Notes for the Week - October 23rd

The Menomonie Youth Hockey Association is holding its annual Christmas Wreath Fundraiser. Reach out to your favorite skater to order. If you don't know a skater, but want to support MYHA, drop me a line HERE and I will have someone contact you.

The City of Menomonie recently installed an adult-size handicap-accessible changing table at the Leisure Services Center—a small upgrade that makes a big difference. Many individuals with disabilities use diapers well into adulthood. Without proper facilities, their caregivers are often forced to change them on restroom floors. This new feature provides a safer, more dignified solution for both individuals and caregivers. The Leisure Services Center hosts a variety of programs that serve residents who will benefit from this improvement. The changing table was added as part of a full bathroom renovation project, made possible through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. We’re proud to take steps toward making Menomonie more inclusive, one improvement at a time. From the Menomonie Parks and Rec. Facebook page.

Jake Banasik is the creator of the very first sculpture featured in the Outpost Gallery! This amazing sculpture, titled “Fissure Manifestation”, is a unique mix of acrylic sheet, color-tinted vinyl, and sandstone. When you see it in person, it seems to be glowing! It’s truly ethereal and feels otherworldly, yet nostalgic. When the weather brightens up again, take an autumn walk and head over to see it in person at the South Hall! From the UW-Stout SOAD Facebook page.

If you're in the market for a new vehicle, check out Keyes Chevytown. They are providing $500 in sponsorship dollars to the Menomonie Police Department for each test drive taken through November 30, while supplies last. This support is in addition to the sponsorship check Keyes Chevytown has already provided through the Chevy First Responder program. Make sure you mention you’re looking to support the Menomonie Police Department through the Chevy First Responder program when visiting the dealership. From the MPD Facebook page.

Saturday, October 25th, is Drug Take Back Day. Cleaning out your medicine cabinet takes just a few minutes, and collection sites around the state make it easy to safely dispose of the unused and expired medications in your home. Find more information HERE. From the Dunn County Health Department Facebook page.

From the Elk Point Resort Facebook page: This is one of the hardest announcements we’ve ever had to make. After nearly 30 years, our family has decided to officially retire our beloved 3rd of July Fireworks Show...As our crowd has grown, so have the challenges. With increasing safety concerns, rising costs, and the changing times, we’ve made the difficult decision to take our final bow with this event. It’s time for us to focus our energy on new opportunities within our business and continue to grow in new directions.

A GoFundMe has been started for the gentleman who lost his home and all of his belongings in last week's fire in Elk Mound. Gerrick Meyer also lost his mother in the fire. Read more on the GoFundMe page.
