Michael E. McLeod

Michael Eugene McLeod passed away peacefully on January 14th, 2026 at home under the care of his family with support from St. Croix Hospice. Dad died how he lived, on his terms. After receiving a terminal diagnosis in early 2022 with an expectancy of 3-5 months, he chose not to focus on the diagnosis but to focus on what he could control. His favorite saying "It is what it is" could not be more true. Not only did he become a "Medical Marvel" to his oncology team, he showed us how to truly live life.

Dad was born on April 26th, 1946 to G.E and Elizabeth (Pax) McLeod. He spent his early childhood relocating as his father's career progressed before returning to their roots in Menomonie. Graduating from Menomonie High School Class of '64, he went on to get his associates degree from what is now CVTC. He then embarked on a 40+ year career at Sanna Dairies, now known as Conagra Brands.

On January 13th, 1968 he met Diane Buss who would quickly become his wife and best friend. They were married on February 13th, 1969 and enjoyed almost 53 years before her passing in 2023. From this union three children were born, sons Brent and Jerry, and daughter Lynette.

Dad deeply enjoyed the time spent with his wife and children. As husband and wife they enjoyed the simple things in life, whether it be a car ride together or an evening sitting on the porch. He instilled in us his love of fishing, hunting, and a deep appreciation of all things outdoors. Dad was our biggest supporter in whatever endeavor we undertook. His greatest joy was when he became a grandfather. He never missed a school function or sporting event his grandchildren were in. According to his granddaughters, he was known to get on the floor and play Barbies. He was by their account the best Barbie Jeep driver around. This was a secret he thought he would take to his grave- sorry Dad! It was a memory that needed to be told.

Mike is survived by his children Brent (Beth) McLeod, Jerry McLeod; grandchildren Jordan McLeod, Lauren (Austin) Moen, Madeline (Emilio De la Cruz) McLeod, Briannan McLeod; brother Dan (Jen) McLeod; sisters Betsy Gilyard, Mary (Steve) Shafer; sisters and brothers in law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mike is preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane; infant daughter Lynette; parents G.E. and Elizabeth McLeod; stepfather Gary Schladweiler; brother Malcolm G. McLeod; and sister Jane (David) Difffendorfer.

The family would like to thank his oncologist Dr. AI-Hattab and staff, the nurses at the Menomonie Infusion Center, nurse Tyler from Aveanna Health, along with the wonderful staff at St. Croix Hospice.
