Matt Riley selected as new Activities Director at Menomonie High School

Matt Riley has been selected as the next Activities Director at Menomonie High School, pending approval by the school board on June 10. Mr. Riley, who will also oversee facilities and programs as the district’s Director of Community Education, is scheduled to begin his new position on July 1, 2024.

Mr. Riley has spent the past fifteen years as a physical education teacher at Menomonie High School, where he also serves as the head boys basketball and freshman football coach. Mr. Riley is currently the chair of the physical education

department in charge of the physical education budget, scheduling, mentoring new

teachers in the department, and overall programming. Matt earned his Master of Arts

Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in

August 2014.

Mr. Riley completed his undergraduate coursework at the University of Wisconsin-

Eau Claire, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 2009. Matt was an accomplished college basketball player and team

captain in the Blugolds basketball program. He also served as a member of the

University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition to his CPR, First Aid,

and AED certifications, Mr. Riley is a certified lifeguard, water safety instructor, and

WIAA official for both baseball and softball. Matt and his wife, Taylor, have two

children and live in Menomonie.

The AD position at MHS became vacant for the 2024-25 school year following the

resignation of Michelle Guyant-Holloway. After a two-week posting that resulted in

17 applications, a committee consisting of coaches, advisors, teachers, principals, the

HR director, and the district administrator selected Mr. Riley as the preferred

candidate to recommend to the school board. With Matt Riley set to move into the

AD position, the school district has immediately initiated a search for a new physical

education teacher and head boys basketball coach.
