Marilyn Elaine McQuiston passed away peacefully at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie, WI on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born August 1, 1934 in Eau Claire, WI to Alvin Mai and Tena (Baldwin) Mai. She grew up in the Eau Claire area and graduated from the Eau Claire High School in 1952.
Marilyn married the love of her life Jacob McQuiston on September 11, 1954 at Chapel 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Riley, Kansas while Jacob was enlisted in the Army.
To this union they were blessed with seven children, one whom passed at birth.
They eventually ended up in Menomonie, joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and raised their children.
Marilyn had many hobbies growing up. She loved Roller Skating and Ice Skating. She also loved playing softball, horseback riding and bowling.
In the later years, after she married Jacob as a family of eight they enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.
As the children grew and were moving away from home Marilyn discovered her true passion of quilting. She designed and made crib size and twin-size quilts for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom there are many.
Marilyn was a very special lady. Some words that describe her are loving wife of 71 years, mom, grandma and great grandma. She was very caring and always willing to help anyone in need. Her time on earth may have ended, but her love continues to live on in her family and friends hearts. She will be missed by all.
She leaves behind her husband Jacob of 71 years; her children, Neil, Barry (Jolee), Dan (Val), Shelley, Pam (Kevin), and Julie (John); her grandchildren, Mark (Anita) Jacob (Nichole), Amber (Joe), Andrew (Lacy), Amy, Brandi (Mike), Michael (Brittney), Amy (Jon), Ashley (Jonah), Amanda (Nick), Darren (Miranda), Kayla, Danny, Tammy, and Brian, and 30 great grandchildren.
She is further survived by her siblings Katie Rubusch, Lyle Mai, Jane (Denny) Schutts, and Rose (Wayne) Grosskopf.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Tena Mai, Step mother Eva Mai, Sisters Gerry Erdman, and Joan Mai, Brothers Alvin (Bud) Mai, Richard (Rick) Mai. Infant son, Terry, Grandsons Randy McQuiston, and Adam McQuiston, and son-in-law Dale Otto.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marilyn’s favorite CNA Alice, she fixed her hair in a very special way whenever she worked. Also, a special thank you to Nurse Hilda and Nurse Mary, and the rest of the staff at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. A thank you to St. Croix Hospice, and most of all Pastor Sarah, she was truly a godsend. She was there when we needed her with a prayer, communion and shoulder to cry on.
