Jean Marie Retz

Jean Marie Retz, age 80, of Boyceville, WI went home to her heavenly father on July 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on a naval base in Oakland, California, and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She began her career as an X-ray technician before marrying the love of her life, Gerald Retz, on May 14th, 1983. Together they built a wonderful life in Boyceville, WI, where Jean devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, her faith, and her community.

Jean was a longtime member and dedicated volunteer at St. John's Lutheran Church, where she faithfully gave her time and talents to serve others. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved, traveling, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin, on Canadian fishing trips, and later in life enjoying multiple camping trips and cruises with friends and family. Whether weathering storms on a fishing trip, marveling at the beauty of an Alaskan cruise, or simply sitting around laughing together, Jean treasured the relationships that filled her life with joy.

Above all else, Jean will be remembered for her unwavering faith in the Lord. She was selfless, compassionate, steadfast, and deeply devoted to others. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel cared for and valued. She consistently placed the needs of others before her own, leaving a lasting example of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love.

Jean's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Gerald Retz; her son, Mark (Brittney) Retz of Hudson, WI; and her cherished grandchildren, Alexzander, Luella, and Emilia, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Rick (Loree) Campbell of Elk River, MN, and her sister, Barbara Campbell of Elk River, MN, along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Campbell.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, Jean's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love. Her family finds comfort knowing that the memories made around cabin campfires, on fishing boats, around the dinner table, and during laughter-filled gatherings will forever keep her spirit close.

A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville, WI with Pastor Brad Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

Jean's family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown by family and friends during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
