Janet Irene (Graese) Dettmann, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.

Janet was born on September 25, 1935, in the Township of Forest, Wisconsin, to Arnold and Martha (Suckow) Graese. She attended Woodland School, a one-room country school less than a mile from the family farm where she was raised, completing grades one through eight. She went on to graduate from Clear Lake High School on May 26, 1953.

Following graduation, Janet moved to New Richmond, Wisconsin, where she worked in an administrative role at Doughboy. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Rueben Dettmann. The two were united in marriage on August 16, 1957. In 1966, they purchased the family farm where they lovingly nurtured their five children: Darrel, Susan, Wayne, Roxanne, and Dianne. They shared 64 wonderful and devoted years together until Rueben’s passing in April, 2022.

Janet was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life and was evident in the way she served others. She faithfully attended Immanuel Lutheran Church, which her father was instrumental in its construction. Janet remained deeply involved in the church, teaching Sunday school, serving as a member of the American Lutheran Church Women (ALCW), as well as ALCW president, and was devoted to leading weekly Bible studies at Glenhaven Nursing Home. She and Rueben also hosted many Bible studies in their home, which eventually led to the foundation of Living Word Chapel in Forest, Wisconsin.

Family and fellowship were central to Janet’s life. She and Rueben hosted many lively 500 Card Club gatherings during the winter months. Janet enjoyed gardening and canning, but her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend their baseball games, dance recitals, choir concerts, and other special events.

Janet is lovingly remembered by her children: Darrel (Diane) of Eagan, Minnesota; Susan Nordstrom (friend Jim) of Lake Elmo, Minnesota; Wayne (Mary) of Columbia, Missouri; Roxanne (Dave) Link of Menomonie, Wisconsin; and Dianne (Todd) Sinz of Menomonie, Wisconsin.

She is further survived by her grandchildren: Elizabeth Dettmann; Jill (John) Heimerman; Eric Nordstrom; Sarah (Tim) Shore; Rachel Justice; Nathan Soley; Nicole Soley; Valerie Soley; Mitchell (Abbie) Sinz; Lauren (Scotty) L’Heureux; and Meghan Sinz; and also, her great-grandchildren: Josiah Fiedler; Gabriel Shore; Evelyn Shore; Hannah Justice; Timothy Justice; Sloane Soley; Blair L’Heureux; Theodore Sinz; and Ayla Sinz.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rueben, her parents, Arnold and Martha Graese, and her brothers, Virgil Graese and Gerald Graese.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Living Word Chapel in Forest, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. Janet’s legacy of faith, hospitality, and love for family will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

A heartfelt “Thank you” to the staff of Glenhaven Nursing Home for their constant kindness, compassion, and dedication regarding the care of our mother. We are, and will always be, extremely grateful!
