Irene M. Johnson

Irene M. Johnson, age 84 of Colfax, WI passed away on July 8, 2026.

She was born July 8, 1942 to Mavis (Burck) and Jesse Phillips and grew up in rural Menomonie.

Irene married Edwin Johnson on January 11, 1960 and they were blessed with three children, Ranie, Lisa and Eddy. Irene and Ed enjoyed 65 years together.

Irene worked several years as a bookkeeper for her Dad’s feed mill, once it was sold she later worked for the Spring Valley School District as a cafeteria cook, after retirement Irene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends which included fishing and camping and visits with her condo neighbors, special thanks to Judy Foust, Irene Smith and Judy Ristow.

She is survived by her children, Ranie Smeltzer (Dale Weber), Lisa Van Dusartz (Brian Elling) and Edwin “Eddy” Johnson (Tim Fritz). She is also lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brother, Russell (Mandy) Phillips, Sisters-in-law, Marlene Kern, Marjorie Branshaw, Avis Johnson and Dolly Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents Mavis and Jesse Phillips; brothers, Allen and Raymond Phillips; her mother and father-in-law Alma and Carl Johnson; son-in-law Randy Smeltzer along with brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with burial following at Grandview Cemetery in Menomonie, WI.
