Daniel Skillings

ree

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Eugene Skillings who left this world peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the age of 82.

Dan was born on 12/4/42 to George and Orpha Skillings and grew up on the family farm near Dunnville, WI. Dan attended Durand High School. He held various jobs but ultimately settled on a bricklaying career as well as farming. He was known for his crazy tempo for getting work done and directing those around him to “Hurry Up!” It’s ironic that his side business was named “Tear Ass” Construction! He was always moving at top speed no matter what the job was.

Dan married Marguerite Birthman on November 7, 1964, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Together they were blessed with three children, Rhonda, Tim and Lexi.

Grampa Dan was a simple man who enjoyed cold beers, 4-wheeler rides, helping on the farm in any capacity (even when he should not have been) and spending time in later years with his great grandchildren. He would have lived this way forever – he wanted to be part of everything, but his body had a different plan. He’s now with everyone in a different way – around a corner, a door slamming, or in the twinkle of an eye. He will be remembered always.

Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marg, daughter Rhonda (Jeff) Abbott, son, Tim (Tracy) Skillings, daughter Lexi Skillings; his six granddaughters Shelby (Ryan) Tischman, Hailey (Travis) Welch, Kelsey (Lance) Anderson, Devyn (Derek) Kahl, Carli and Allison Bilse; nine great grandchildren; Peyton, Paige, Roy, Emry, Kinsey, Levi, Luke, Kaden and Beckham; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Orpha Skillings, in-laws John & Eva Birthman, one infant brother, Delvin, brothers Donald Skillings and Dale Skillings, sisters Marlys Jensen, Wanda Mortel, Irene Cotts, Lorraine Cotts; three brothers-in-law Stan Cotts, Darryl Cotts, Brownie Mortel; sisters-in-law Henri (Birthman) Smith, Kathie Skillings and Dorothy Skillings.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Rev. Judy Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 2nd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will take place at Froen Cemetery in the Town of Red Cedar, Dunn County.
