Daniel "Dan" Clarence Werner

Daniel "Dan" Clarence Werner, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A passionate outdoorsman, Dan's love for the woods began at an early age while working alongside his father logging in the hills of Weston. There, he developed the strong work ethic, determination, and appreciation for nature that would define him throughout his life.

After graduating from Menomonie High School in 1961 and attending UW-River Falls, Dan built a successful career in the timber industry. He eventually owned and operated his own timber business, buying and selling timber for mills around the world. Dan often considered himself fortunate that his life's work allowed him to spend his days surrounded by the woods and natural beauty he loved.

Dan was an avid bird and deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, especially during his annual trips to Canada. He found great joy in walking the trails of his farmland, hunting with family and friends, cutting firewood, and spending quiet moments in nature. Whether working in the woods or simply appreciating their beauty, Dan felt most at home outdoors.

In his younger years, Dan played fastpitch softball for Hedlund's. As a catcher, he was known for never letting anyone steal home plate. He continued playing softball for several teams throughout the years, including a senior league, where he earned a reputation as the "home run ringer."

Beyond the woods he loved, Dan enjoyed music, dancing and company of good friends. Sunday afternoons were often spent on the dance floor, sharing laughter and building treasured friendships. In retirement, Dan and Kathy enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.

Dan is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughters, Susan (Tim) Sausen and Amy (Rob) Storsveen; his brother-in-law, Bob Stevens (Regi), who was like a son to him; his grandchildren, Sarah Sausen, Shelby Courtis, Dillon Storsveen, Kendall Clausen, and Keanan Clausen; his great-grandchildren, Oliver Courtis, Archer Courtis, and Marlow Courtis; his brother, Dick Werner (Rosalie); and his sister, Pat Pickerign (Keith).

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Weber, and his parents, Clarence and Lucille Werner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dunn County Fish & Game.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Bob Friese officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
