Charles Owen

Charles (Charlie/Chuck) E. Owen, age 74, of Colfax, WI passed away Friday November 21st, 2025 at his home. Health problems had taken his strength in the last few years but never broke his spirit.

He was born August 17, 1951 in Menomonie, WI to Daryl and Marion Owen. He grew up in the Tainter Lake area and graduated from Boyceville High School in 1969.Charlie married Carol Dicks July 24, 1971 at St. Joe’s Catholic Church in Menomonie, and together they lived in Menomonie, Colfax and Durand until returning to Colfax in 1984. They had two children.

Charlie spent 30 years working as a police officer. He spent the last 20 years as a Deputy and later a Sargent at the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department. He absolutely loved his job and said many times he wouldn’t have traded it for anything. Forced into early retirement at the age of 50 because of a chronic issue with his foot that had to be fused. He spent several years as a bus driver for the School District of Colfax. He was an incredible man and in his line of work as a Sheriff’s Deputy he met a lot of people on some of the worst days of their lives.

Countless people have stated over the years how he was fair and treated them like the human beings they were, regardless of the situation. He was known for his outgoing personality and incredible sense of humor that was passed on to multiple generations. His daughter, son and grandson cherish the fact they will carry on his spirit through their sense of humor with which he blessed them with.

Charlie is survived by his wife Carol of Colfax; his son Troy (Haley) Owen of Whitefish Bay, son-in-law Timothy Zunker of Menomonie, grandchildren Jackson (Gina) Zunker of Menomonie and Ivy, Ruby, Howie and Charlie Owen of Whitefish Bay; a great grandfather to precious little Henry Zunker, nephews Tony (Becky) Kohnke, Brett (Michelle) Kohnke, Gary (Becky) Smith, Anthony Smith and Randy (Rose) Owen; sister-in-law Janice (Bill) Kohnke, brothers-in-law Paul (Connie) Dicks, Karl (Kim) Dicks and Dennis Dicks. He is further survived by many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daryl and Marion Owen; sisters Jane and Janice Owen, Alana Tuschl, Theresa Michels and his only daughter Tina (Owen) Zunker.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie.
