The City Council approved a blasting permit for work at Point Comfort Park, where the sanitary sewer lift station is being relocated as part of improvements to the parking lot and boat ramp.
Contractor Pember Companies encountered bedrock during excavation and requested a permit, which the council granted at its meeting on September 8th.
Blasting could begin as early as Monday, September 15th, and should be completed within three days, weather permitting.
Property owners within 500 feet of the site have received written notice of the blasting and had the option for a free pre-blast inspection of their property.
Residents in the area may hear sounds similar to thunder or feel mild vibrations during the work. Noise is reduced with the use of soil and mats. Warning signals will be used before each blast.
Work will only take place between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
