Alvin "Al" E. Fremouw


Alvin “Al” E. Fremouw age 94, of Menomonie, passed away Sunday May 18, 2025, at Dove HealthCare West in Eau Claire.


Al was born August 22, 1930, in Northfield, MN.  He was the youngest of 11 children of Albert and Olive (VanVoorhis) Fremouw.  Al grew up in Northfield and graduated from Northfield High School.  After high school, Al worked in the construction industry, helping build dormitories on the St. Olaf Campus in Northfield.  Al was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and was activated during the Korean War.  After the service, he went to the National Meat Cutting School in Toledo, OH and worked as a meat cutter at a local grocery store in Mankato, MN for a few years.  He attended the Minnesota School of Business and graduated with an accounting degree.  He worked as an accountant with International Harvester Company in Minneapolis. MN. 


Al met his future wife Jeanette (Jenny) Stepka at a local dance hall, and they were married September 12, 1959, in St. Patrick, MN. After marriage they made their home in Richfield, MN until he was transferred to Eau Claire to serve as the International Harvester Branch Accountant.  In 1967, they moved to Menomonie where Al began working for Richartz Implement selling trucks.  After Richartz Implement, he worked various jobs until he retired in 1992.


Al was a very avid golfer. Lettering in golf in high school, Al put his golf clubs aside to raise his four children with Jeanette. Upon retirement, he picked up his clubs and spent many a day on the golf course with Jenny by his side. On three occasions, Al hit a hole-in-one. Al also enjoyed spending time with his family, dancing with Jenny, bowling, fishing and going for a drive in the country, especially in the fall. They were active parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. 


Al is survived by his wife Jeanette, four children, Renee Zerwin of Waco, TX, Greg(Anna) of Wilson, WI,  Jeff (Beth) of Bovey, MN, Barb (James) Strack of Red Wing, MN; 11grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stepping Stones of Dunn County or a charity of your choice.


A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday May 28, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. John Mano officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.


Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
