Jamie J. Smith

ree

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Jamie (James) Smith, who left us on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the age of 46.

Born on December 28, 1978, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, Jamie was a bright, generous soul who possessed disarming wit and an uncanny ability to connect to anyone.

Jamie graduated from Glenwood City High School, class of 1997. Following graduation, Jamie enlisted and served in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge Jamie began his career working for local factories and assisting with spring planting and fall harvesting on the family farm. The sound of machines at Bright Wood in Menomonie, Wisconsin was the backdrop to his life for many years. Jamie found immense satisfaction in his work at Bright Wood and appreciated the friendships he made there.

After purchasing his residence in Irvington, Jamie became a home improvement enthusiast. He soon began taking on remodeling projects from minor repairs to major renovations. In a freshly renovated kitchen Jamie began to show off his culinary skills by preparing amazing and delicious meals for family and friends. One impromptu Christmas party immediately became an annual holiday event for family and friends.

Jamie will be deeply missed by family and friends who valued his friendship and empathetic heart. Those who knew him well knew him as a loyal and compassionate friend. Mencius said, “Friends are the siblings God never gave us.” Jamie was fortunate to have a best friend in Sam Zurn. The pair met in kindergarten and from that moment on they were inseparable. A brotherhood that would produce countless adventures and memories.

“Love this day, because it might be your last.” Jamie’s life is a testament to the belief that every day is precious and a gift. The legacy of a person is not measured in years, but in the love and joyful moments they created with friends and family. Jamie taught us to love each day and cherish every moment.

Jamie is survived by parents Gail, and Richard Smith; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; beloved friends and a large extended family who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Marilyn & Roy, Pat, and James; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Jamie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Grandpa Joe’s Trailside, Irvington, Wisconsin.
