Community Conversations: How Oligarchs Dominate Our Democracy - January 24th

The next Community Conversations is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the Menomonie Public Library.

Community Conversations will be doing a book review on “The Blind Spot: How Oligarchs Dominate Our Democracy” by Jeffrey Winters (copyright 2026)  This discussion will be led by Mike Brandt and Lorene Vedder.

This book was introduced to us by a book review on PBS.  The main emphasis of our review will be on the history of the 1787 Constitutional Convention and remedies that can strengthen and modernize our form of government.  We would like you to join us in this discussion as we look at governmental reform that respects ideals of freedom, fairness, justice, dignity, and humanity.  In our divided nation, if we share power between the ultra-wealthy and the masses, people should become prosperous enough for a spirit of generosity.

You do not have to have read this book to participate.  Come join the conversation!

All are welcome.

Community Conversations is a local nonpartisan group started in 2015 to discuss topics that affect our community. Presentations include speakers and videos with conversations afterward about issues that affect the local community and Western Wisconsin.
