From the Vets Fighting 4 Vets Facebook page:

RUCK•ING [VERB] Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack). It implies action, energy, and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character — and builds it, too.

In the military rucking is a staple of military drills and training. All recruits are expected to complete successful ruck marches. There are many reasons for this, not least of which are rucking’s benefits for stamina, strength and muscle tone.

From a fitness perspective, army ruck march standards are very high. Yet, there’s also a psychological aspect of this training that shouldn’t be overlooked. It takes more than just strength to beat the US Army’s target of 12 miles (19k) in three hours. Mental fortitude is a key part of this test. Often, the most skilled ruckers are those with high levels of mental fortitude and a positive mental attitude!

We ruck 22k in remembrance of the 22 soldiers who lose their life everyday to suicide. We ruck to promote this positive mental attitude that is needed to endure many of the challenges faced with from deployment. We raise awareness of ptsd, depression, and mental struggles. But we also display connection, support, and help!

Please join us October 23rd to support our military and veterans! We don’t make you walk 22k in 3 hours. We take it easy and have several water and snack stations along the way! It’s ok to leave early. It’s ok to not complete all 22k. And it’s ok to just show up before or after! Support is support and we appreciate all of it! Not available October 23rd? NO PROBLEM!
