Spring Sport Athletes Headed to State

Track and Field

Members of the Track and Field team participated in sectionals on May 26th in Marshfield.

Junior Jayden Williams won the sectional title in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Williams broke his own school record in the triple jump, and he tied the school high jump record at 6'9".

Senior Bella Jacobsen broke both of her own school records in the 1600m and the 3200m runs. She finished first in the 3200m and second in the 1600m.

Senior Max Hildebrandt finished 3rd in the discus.

All three athletes qualified for the Division I State Meet June 3rd and 4th in LaCrosse.

Boys Tennis

Taken from the MHS announcements.

For the first time since at least the early 1990s, the Menomonie boys tennis team finished second overall as a team at sectionals placing only behind state ranked Eau Claire Memorial and bringing home a sectional runner up plaque.

Menomonie entered the day behind Hudson in total points scored, but with incredible performances by all, and everyone winning their first round matchups, the Mustangs jumped Hudson in points to take sole position of second place.

Joey Leipnitz led the way by making it all the way to the championship match at the top singles position and punching his ticket to the state tournament along the way.

Joining Joey in Madison at the State Tournament is the doubles team of Cole Witucki and Joaquin Gamez who beat Marshfield in their state qualifying match.

Noah Reckin, Brady Goodman, Isaac Blomquist, and Charlie Behrend all came in clutch with their performances in doubles and all advancing to the championship matches at their flights. It was an incredible way to end the season for the team.

Good luck to all three captains Joey, Joaquin, and Cole as you head to Madison for the WIAA State Tournament!

The WIAA State Tennis Tournament is scheduled for June 2-4 in Madison.
